Obtaining C-MOLD Keyfiles

About Keyfiles

Please note that C-MOLD v3.x key files and key files for versions before 96.7 will not work with C-MOLD 96.7 or higher.
If you already have a C-MOLD 96.7 or higher version keyfile and your support and update agreement is current, you should skip ahead to Chapter 3, "Installing C-MOLD."

How to Request Keyfiles

To obtain keyfiles, you must provide your C-MOLD sales agent with the following information:

  1. System name for the one computer that will run the C-MOLD license server that enables all the C-MOLD interactive products you have licensed. If the license server will be supporting several other computers, this should be a computer that experiences a minimum of down-time.
  2. System ID number(s) for the computer(s) you have licensed to run C-MOLD analyses.
Procedures for obtaining the system name and ID are given in the sections that follow.

Windows 95 and NT Versions

If your Windows 95 or NT computer is on a network, the system name is the value of the COMPUTERNAME variable. You can find the value by typing set at an MS-DOS command prompt window. If your Windows 95 or NT is stand-alone, you do not need to provide a system name: the system ID number is the value of the ethernet network address. Windows NT users can get this value by typing the ipconfig/all command in a command prompt window. Windows 95 users can get this value with the net diag /s command in a command prompt window. In the ethernet section, you'll find a "physical address" value. Your system ID number will be the six pairs of hexadecimal digits that look something like this: 00-00-c0-12-3b-48.

Windows users also need to have networking enabled, even if you are running a stand-alone machine. Refer to Appendix C "Troubleshooting Guide" for more information on the ethernet address.

An ethernet network card is required to run the Windows 95 and NT versions of C-MOLD.

UNIX Version

To obtain the system name, type the command /bin/uname -n. To show the system ID number, refer to Table 2-1 below. Issue the appropriate command from the table for your platform. Then contact your C-MOLD sales agent and request a keyfile for the products you have licensed. You will receive the keyfile by return e-mail or fax. Once you have received your keyfile, you may proceed with the installation.

TABLE 2-1. Obtaining the system ID for UNIX platform
Hardware (CPU)  Operating system  Use this command to get the system ID
DEC Alpha AXP  Digital UNIX  /usr/sbin/uerf | grep address
HP 9000/700  HP-UX  /bin/uname -i
IBM RS/6000  AIX  /bin/uname -m
(lists all 12 digits, including leading/trailing zeros)
SGI  IRIX  /etc/sysinfo -s
SGI (MIPS IV)  IRIX  /etc/sysinfo -s
Sun SPARC  Solaris (SunOS)  /usr/ucb/hostid

All Versions

Once the C-MOLD license manager daemon is installed, you can verify the system name and system ID number using the cmoldlmd -sysname and cmoldlmd -sysid commands. The license manager is explained in detail in Appendix A, "C-MOLD License Manager Reference."
