Installing the C-MOLD License Manager as a Service on Windows NT
Beginning with C-MOLD 98.7, you can install the C-MOLD License Manager (cmoldlmd) as a service on Windows NT, so it will start automatically. This appendix describes how to perform the installation. For an overview of the C-MOLD License Manger, see Appendix A.
Installing the C-MOLD License Manager
as a Windows NT Service
The C-MOLD License Manager service consists of two parts. The first, cmoldlmd.exe, is the actual license manager. The second, cmlmdsrv.exe, interacts with Windows NT to run cmoldlmd in the background. Cmoldlmd can also be run in the foreground in a DOS window. We recommend running cmoldlmd in the foreground, because it is much, much easier to resolve any key or license manager problems this way.
The installation consists of four steps, summarized below, and then described in detail:
- Install the keyfile.
- Make sure cmoldlmd works in a DOS window.
- Install the service.
- Start the service.
Following is a detailed description of the four steps:
- Before you can install the C-MOLD License Manager as a service, you must obtain
and install your keyfile. (See Chapter 2, "Obtaining C-MOLD Keyfiles," and the section
in Chapter 3 on installing them.)
- Once you have installed your keyfile, start cmoldlmd in a DOS window, as follows, to
make sure that it can run correctly and there are no problems with the keyfile.
a. Open a DOS window.
b. cd to the directory where C-MOLD is installed.
c. Enter: run bin/cmoldlmd -cmold.
d. If the license manager starts correctly, proceed to the next step. If not, see Appendix D, "PC Troubleshooting Guide."
- Once cmoldlmd runs successfully in a DOS window, you are ready to install it as a service,
as follows:
a. Open a DOS window.
b. cd to the directory where CMOLD is installed.
c. Enter: run cmlmdsrv -install.
- The C-MOLD License Manager is now installed as a service. It will start automatically
the next time the the system is rebooted, or you can start it manually now, as follows:
a. Open the Windows Control Panel.
b. Open the Services icon.
c. Select the C-MOLD License Manager from the list of services.
d. Click the Start button.
Removing the Service
You must remove the service before you can successfully un-install C-MOLD. If you need to remove the service, follow these steps:
- Open a DOS window.
- cd to the directory where CMOLD is installed.
- Enter: run bin/cmlmdsrv -remove.
Troubleshooting and Consulting the Logfile
Service Specific Error 0
If Service Specific Error 0 occurs while starting the service, cmoldlmd did not start correctly. When running as a service, all output from cmoldlmd is directed to a log file. The log file is named cmlmdsrv.log, in the C-MOLD/bin directory. Check the log file for an indication of what the problem is. Remember that it is much easier to troubleshoot in a DOS window. If cmoldlmd does not start, use the troubleshooting procedures in Appendix D to solve the problem.
